Where's The Talent Going?

Written by Jody Thompson | Jul 8, 2025 12:00:00 PM

As HR leaders, you know that attracting and retaining top talent is harder than ever. But as more organizations enforce rigid return-to-office (RTO) policies, you have to ask: Are you pushing away the very talent you’re trying to keep?

Here’s what’s happening:

❌ Losing Top Talent to More Flexible Competitors – The best employees have options, and they’re choosing organizations that prioritize trust and flexibility. When forced back into the office without a clear purpose, many will leave.

❌ Eroding Employee Engagement and Loyalty – Mandates send a message: We don’t trust you to work remotely. That loss of autonomy can lead to disengagement, lower productivity, and ultimately, turnover.

❌ Shrinking the Talent Pool – Strict in-office requirements limit hiring to specific geographic areas, cutting access to diverse, high-performing talent who prefer (or need) remote work.

The future of work isn’t about where employees sit—it’s about how they contribute, collaborate, and grow. Organizations that embrace this reality will attract and retain the best. Those that don’t? They risk watching their top performers walk away.

HR leaders, how is your company balancing business needs with talent expectations?
