Loneliness and the work experience.
People can feel lonely at a work location. People can feel lonely working remotely. People can feel lonely in their work relationships. Can the nature of the work (sometimes) isolate people from others?
Loneliness and life.
People can feel lonely in their personal/social lives. People can feel lonely in their marriages, families, friendships.
Does everybody experience loneliness in the same way at the same time? What are the risk factors? Is there a one-size-fits-all approach to addressing loneliness?
What does research say about loneliness and autonomy?
"Autonomy may act as a buffer against the experience of chronic loneliness. Even if individuals experience dissatisfactory social contacts, perceived autonomy may help mitigate the experience of loneliness, because, regardless of the current social situation, one may feel that change is possible" (Fry & Debats, 2002; Suanet & van Tilburg, 2019).
"If individuals feel higher levels of loneliness, encouraging them to seek more contacts may not be enough, given that quantity of contacts alone is not enough to overcome loneliness. It may be important to support their autonomy first. These two complementary strategies may result in a reduced sense of loneliness and, as a result, better health and well-being" (Georg Henning, Dikla Segel-Karpas, P.r Bj.lkebring, Anne Ingeborg Berg).
"Between persons, higher levels of autonomy and baseline were associated with lower levels of loneliness, and increases in autonomy were associated with decreases in loneliness. When individuals felt more autonomous than usual, they also reported less loneliness. However, feeling more autonomous than usual was not associated with increases in loneliness or vice versa" (Georg Henning, Dikla Segel-Karpas, P.r Bj.lkebring, Anne Ingeborg Berg).
